Khalil al-Hayya, head of the Hamas political bureau in Gaza, said that the movement acted with a high sense of responsibility regarding U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan, which led to the announcement of a ceasefire agreement during the Sharm El-Sheikh negotiations.
In a speech broadcast by Al Jazeera, al-Hayya stated that the agreement includes the entry of humanitarian aid, the reopening of the Rafah crossing, and a prisoner exchange, under which 250 prisoners sentenced to life imprisonment and 1,700 detainees from Gaza will be released.
He added that the Palestinian negotiating team had received guarantees from both the mediators and the U.S. administration, confirming that “the war has completely ended.”
Al-Hayya stressed that Hamas will continue to work with all national and Islamic factions to complete the remaining steps outlined in Trump’s plan.
During his speech, he also expressed deep appreciation for the mediators from Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey, as well as to “all those who stood with us in the struggle — from Yemen, Lebanon, Iraq, and Iran — and to all the free people around the world who showed solidarity through land and sea convoys.”
Earlier on Thursday, Qatar announced that an agreement had been reached on the mechanisms and terms for implementing the first phase of Trump’s plan, which includes ending the war, releasing detainees and prisoners, and allowing humanitarian aid into Gaza.
Later today, the Israeli security cabinet (the Cabinet) is expected to convene to approve the deal before submitting it to the full government for final ratification. Once approved, it will pave the way for the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza to a mutually agreed line, and the release of Palestinian prisoners in exchange for Israeli captives held in Gaza.
