Iran and Israel have announced a halt to their exchange of attacks following U.S. intervention, bringing a brief but highly significant round of military confrontation to an end.
While Tehran insists it has established a new equation in which any attack on Lebanon or its allies would trigger a direct response against Israel, Tel Aviv firmly rejects this linkage and maintains that its military operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon will continue.
The two sides exchanged strikes over the past hours, with Israel launching attacks on Beirut’s southern suburbs before targeting sites inside Iran. Tehran responded by firing waves of missiles toward northern Israel. Iran reported casualties from the Israeli strikes, while the Israeli military said it intercepted several incoming missiles.
Despite the ceasefire, the underlying sources of tension remain unresolved. Iran continues to push for Lebanon to be included in any future understanding or agreement, while Israel insists on separating the Lebanese front from its confrontation with Tehran.
Meanwhile, Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon have continued, raising concerns that the conflict could expand further across the region. Additional worries emerged after Yemen’s Ansar Allah movement threatened to target Israeli-linked shipping in the Red Sea.
Although signs of de-escalation have appeared—including the reopening of Iranian airspace, the resumption of flights, and a gradual return to normal life in some areas—the situation remains fragile. Political and military disagreements that fueled the latest escalation are still unresolved.
The key question now is whether the ceasefire will evolve into a broader process of de-escalation, or whether it is merely a temporary pause before another round of confrontation.
