The White House renewed its escalation against the Democratic Party, accusing it of encouraging terrorism, supporting illegal immigration, and causing significant harm to the U.S. economy and citizens due to the ongoing government shutdown, which has now entered its third week without resolution.
In an official statement, the White House claimed that Democrats “have encouraged Hamas-supporting extremists to take over American universities and harass Jewish students,” adding that the Democratic Party “seeks to appease Hamas supporters and illegal immigrants instead of protecting the interests of the American people.”
This escalation comes as the U.S. Senate failed for the eighth time to pass a temporary federal funding bill that would end the weeks-long shutdown. Deep divisions between Republicans and Democrats over key budget provisions continue to block any agreement, as political and economic pressures mount on both sides.
The Republican Party, to which President Donald Trump belongs, currently controls both the House of Representatives and the Senate. However, passing any bill in the Senate requires the support of at least seven Democratic members — a threshold that has yet to be met.
The crisis recalls the longest government shutdown in U.S. history, which occurred during Trump’s first term between 2018 and 2019. During that period, federal agencies were forced to halt operations for more than five weeks, causing an estimated $11 billion in short-term economic losses, according to the Congressional Budget Office.
Amid these developments, President Trump continues to increase pressure on his Democratic rivals by threatening severe measures, including cutting several liberal projects and carrying out large-scale layoffs in the public sector, in an effort to force them to back down and approve the funding plan supported by the White House.
