At a landmark peace summit held in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, President Donald Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, joined by more than 30 world leaders, signed a sweeping agreement aiming to end the Gaza conflict. The pact, involving the U.S., Egypt, Turkey, and Qatar, envisions a permanent ceasefire, prisoner exchanges, humanitarian access, and a transition toward a new governing structure for Gaza.
In the Egyptian resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh, a peace summit convened under the joint presidency of Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and Donald Trump, with more than 31 heads of state and representatives of international organizations in attendance. The leaders of the United States, Egypt, Turkey, and Qatar signed a comprehensive document outlining a proposed agreement between Israel and Hamas.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the declaration includes language such as:
“We seek a vision of peace grounded in mutual respect and shared destiny.”
“We affirm progress toward a comprehensive and lasting peace for the Gaza Strip.”
“We welcome friendly and fruitful relations between Israel and its neighbors.”
In his opening remarks, President Trump thanked President el-Sisi, praising Egypt’s 7,000 years of civilization, and also extended gratitude to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for his “wonderful friendship,” as well as to Qatar’s Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani
In the subsequent press briefing, President el-Sisi emphasized the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and freedom, expressing hope that the new agreement will close a painful chapter in human history. He underscored that peace cannot be built by governments alone but by peoples, and stated that within days the parties will begin formulating the foundations for Gaza’s reconstruction.
Trump, in turn, called the agreement “historic,” declaring that the war in Gaza is over and that humanitarian aid is already flowing. He warned that the rebuilding phase may be the hardest, and he thanked the Arab and Muslim states that contributed to making the breakthrough possible.
The summit, titled the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit, was designed to cement the ceasefire, stabilize the region, and chart a new course for peace in the Middle East. The agreement sets forth key elements: a permanent end to hostilities, a mechanism for prisoner exchanges, guaranteed humanitarian access to Gaza, and the establishment of a transitional Palestinian authority to manage the territory temporarily.
It follows a recently brokered ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, mediated by Egypt, Qatar, Turkey, and with U.S. involvement, which also included a prisoner-hostage swap.
Notable attendees included Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, King Abdullah II of Jordan, Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Mohammad Shia’ Al Sudani of Iraq, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and others.Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was invited but ultimately did not attend the summit, citing the timing’s proximity to a Jewish holiday.
In sum, the agreement aims to mark a turning point in the conflict, shifting toward stabilization, reconstruction, and a renewed diplomatic push for a lasting peace.
