In a move described as historic, Google announced during Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit in Maui its plans to merge Android and Chrome OS into a single operating system designed for laptops, with an official launch set for next year.
Sameer Samat, Google’s VP of Android, explained that the goal of this integration is to accelerate AI development and bring it directly to computers, creating an unprecedented level of synergy between smartphones and PCs.
Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon revealed that he has already seen the trial version of the new system, saying: “I can’t wait to get one of these devices.” Meanwhile, Rick Osterloh, Google’s SVP of Devices & Services, confirmed that the system will integrate Gemini AI and fully support Android apps along with its developer ecosystem.
Tech experts believe this step will put Google in direct competition with Microsoft and Apple, especially since the new system will leverage the power of Snapdragon X2 Elite processors.
💡 Google’s entry into the PC operating system market could be a true game-changer, paving the way for a new generation of laptops that combine the power of Android with the smoothness of Chrome OS.
