Girona halted Real Madrid’s progress and forced them to another setback with a 1–1 draw in Round 14 of La Liga, gifting their Catalan neighbors Barcelona the league lead.

Girona opened the scoring in the final moments of the first half through Moroccan international Azzedine Ounahi, capitalizing on defensive confusion from Real Madrid. In the second half, Vinícius Júnior earned a penalty in the 66th minute, which French star Kylian Mbappé converted to level the score for the visitors.

With this draw, Real Madrid increased their tally to 33 points, sitting second behind Barcelona by just one point after three consecutive matches without a win. Girona, meanwhile, remained in 18th place with 12 points.

Real Madrid now prepare for a tough away match against Athletic Bilbao on Wednesday, while Barcelona face a major showdown against Atlético Madrid the day before.
