Germany Warns: Escalation with Russia Possible, “Hot Confrontation” Feared

News

German intelligence has warned of a potential escalation in relations with Russia, cautioning that current tensions could escalate into a direct military confrontation. Martin Jäger, head of Germany’s Federal Intelligence Service, told parliament that Europe may already be "within the circle of fire" amid rising Russian threats.

Jäger emphasized before lawmakers that the line between peace and war is increasingly blurring, stressing the need to prepare for a potential deterioration of the situation. He said Russia is testing the West, aiming to undermine NATO, destabilize European democracies, and push Europe toward economic and political subordination.

The report highlighted recent incidents, such as unidentified drones flying over airports in Munich, Denmark, Norway, and Poland, as evidence of the growing threat. Meanwhile, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski warned of a Russian hybrid war involving espionage, cyberattacks, and deliberate acts of terror.

Although Moscow denies these violations, European leaders are considering strengthening NATO’s eastern flank defenses to address the increasing threats.
