British police announced on Saturday evening the arrest of two men following a series of stabbing incidents aboard a train near Cambridge in eastern England — an attack described by Prime Minister Keir Starmer as “horrific.”
In a statement posted on X, the British Transport Police said officers responded to a report of a stabbing on a train heading to Huntingdon, where several passengers were attacked.
According to Cambridgeshire Police, the incident occurred at 7:39 p.m. local time, and an armed police unit was dispatched to Huntingdon Station, about 120 kilometers north of London. The train was stopped and two men were arrested, while the injured were taken to hospital for treatment. Police have not yet released information about the number of victims or the severity of their injuries.
Videos shared on social media showed armed officers boarding the train amid panic among passengers.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer described the incident as “deeply disturbing,” expressing solidarity with the victims and thanking emergency services for their quick response. He wrote on X: “Our thoughts are with all those affected by this horrific incident.”
Meanwhile, Paul Bristow, the Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, called the scenes inside the train “shocking” and urged for stronger security measures across public transport.
Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack and have not yet revealed the possible motives, or whether it is linked to criminal or terrorist activity.
