In a move that redefines the future of smartphones, Samsung surprised attendees at the APEC Summit in South Korea by unveiling a prototype of its groundbreaking triple-folding phone — the company’s first of its kind — ahead of its anticipated commercial launch later this year.
On Tuesday, during the APEC Summit in South Korea, Samsung showcased the first official prototype of its innovative Galaxy Z TriFold, a smartphone that features triple-folding technology, marking a new milestone in the brand’s leadership in foldable devices.
According to Korea Economic Daily, the phone sports a 6.5-inch display when folded, expanding to 10 inches when fully opened, with an inward folding mechanism that ensures a smooth and flexible user experience.
The device boasts a thickness of just 4.2 mm when unfolded and between 1.2 cm and 1.5 cm when folded, making it one of the slimmest foldable devices in its class. Mass production is expected to begin next month, paving the way for its global release.
Earlier reports suggest the phone will include three separate batteries, strategically distributed across its folding sections to optimize power management. A recently published patent also revealed Samsung’s success in maintaining a slim design while improving overall battery life.
The Galaxy Z TriFold will run on the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor, paired with up to 16GB of RAM and 256GB of base storage, and will support wireless and reverse charging, along with a USB-C port.
Photography is expected to be one of the device’s standout features, as the design includes a 200-megapixel main sensor, accompanied by an ultra-wide lens and a zoom lens, supporting up to 100x digital zoom—placing it among the most advanced camera phones in the market.
Samsung reportedly plans to release the phone in select international markets, including the UAE and the United States, expanding beyond its previous focus on South Korea and China. This move highlights the company’s confidence in its new design and its ambition to dominate the global foldable smartphone market.
