Despite recent improvements aimed at making Roblox a safer platform for children, a new study has revealed that serious risks remain — continuing to worry researchers and parents alike.
A study conducted by market research firm Revealing Reality found that children are still exposed to “disturbing content” inside Roblox, despite the company’s recent updates and the introduction of age verification systems.
The study, which used a fake child account of around 10 years old, concluded that the platform’s dangers go beyond potential predators or inappropriate adult interactions — including the presence of unsuitable content for its target age group.
After Roblox implemented new safety measures to improve child protection, Revealing Reality repeated the experiment in recent weeks. The follow-up results showed that the improvements were still insufficient to directly safeguard young players. While explicit content was addressed, the platform failed to tackle more subtle, hidden forms of inappropriate material.
According to the study, the age verification feature acts as a “gatekeeper” trying to block access to adult content but doesn’t prevent such material from existing in the game — a game that markets itself as child-friendly with its cartoon-like design.
The research team also tested the platform by creating multiple accounts ranging from ages 5 to 18 to observe how the experience varied between age groups. It found that age verification is not mandatory and can easily be bypassed, allowing adults to enter child-only spaces — raising further concerns about the platform’s overall safety measures.
